NAAVA Marks Five Years of Training India's Voice Acting Talent, Crossing 700+ Students Milestone

Mumbai, India

Neshma Academy of Acting and Voice Acting (NAAVA) celebrates five years since its founding on July 14, 2021, having trained over 700 students, children and adults alike, from across India in acting, voice acting, and dubbing.
Founded by veteran voice artist and theatre personality Neshma Chemburkar, NAAVA carries forward a legacy that began in the 1970s with the Neshma Theatre Group, run by Chemburkar’s parents, Nitin Mantri and Sulbha Mantri, in Mumbai. Chemburkar herself began dubbing at the age of four, and has since lent her voice to some of Indian entertainment’s most recognisable characters, including Black Widow across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Misty in Pokémon, and Young Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s The Crown. Under her guidance, NAAVA has conducted 27+ voice-acting workshops and 13 advanced course batches, including offline sessions in Delhi and Bengaluru.

Craft That Travels

The five-year milestone is being marked not just by numbers but by outcomes. NAAVA students have gone on to voice characters in Netflix’s original Hindi animated series Kurukshetra and Pogo’s Omi Number 1, and to compete on national platforms, including India Voice Fest, where NAAVA has been an Industry Partner. At India Voice Fest 2025, four NAAVA students won the Voice Talent Hunt across Hindi, English, and Marathi, with student Karen D’Souza winning the Audiobook Award in the Professional Category, and further nominations across Hindi Digital Ads, Hindi Animation Dubbing, and multiple regional-language categories.

Backed by the Industry

NAAVA’s growth has been shaped by mentors and collaborators who have known Chemburkar since long before the academy existed.
“I remember the day Neshma became a voice artist. She was just four years old. We were dubbing a Marathi film, and a young child actor couldn’t land his lines after take after take. Her mother suggested we try Neshma, since she was already working alongside us as a child artist. We put her in front of the mic, and in her very first take, she delivered the entire line flawlessly. Everyone in that studio was stunned. That’s the artist NAAVA was built by,” said Vivek Deshpande, senior writer, director, and editor in the Hindi and Marathi film and television industry.
“NAAVA turns five, mercurial and magical. May you both grow from strength to strength, and may you keep imparting your wisdom and your knowledge of voicing to all the aspiring voice artists who come in touch with you, and may all of them be as astounding as you are,” said Ankur Jhaveri, one of India’s leading voice artists and the Hindi voice of Goku across the Dragon Ball franchise, and the official Hindi voice of Virat Kohli and Mahesh Babu.
“Congratulations on completing five years of NAAVA. Not only are you a fantastic voice artist and a dear friend, but through NAAVA, you’ve cultivated a beautiful community of voice acting students, and this speaks so much about your passion for the craft,” said Darpan Mehta, founder of India Voice Fest and one of India’s most heard commercial voice artists.

“What’s lovely about this journey is that Neshma didn’t just grow herself; she carried everyone around with her. NAAVA rocks,” said Meghana Erande Joshi, a close friend of Chemburkar’s and the Hindi voice of Hattori in Ninja Hattori, Doraemon, and Joyce Byers in the Hindi dub of Stranger Things.

Looking Ahead

“Every milestone is made possible by people who choose to believe in your dream before the world sees it,” said Chemburkar. “Five years in, what makes me proudest isn’t just the numbers, it’s watching our students go on to work on national platforms and win recognition for their craft. Here’s to discovering many more voices, together.”
